Alexi Delano A.D.N.Y - Interview

DHN: Your own Corner Shots label, have you had many releases on this label ?

A.N.D.Y: I ve only had one so far but I have five all ready to go.

DHN:What other artists besides yourself have you releases ?

A.N.D.Y: Corner shots is basically all going to be my own productions, ones in a while somebody else s will apear like #4, a vocal track by Universal tounges and DKMA from boston, and it s named shiver me .

DHN: Could you tell us a little more about the label ?

A.N.D.Y: I m trying to combine electronic and organic instruments and throw a litle bit of vocals on top.

DHN: Any plans for other labels ?

A.N.D.Y: Yes, but it s undercover.

DHN: You ve worked with Jesper Dahlback a number of times, are yee old friends from Sweden ?

A.N.D.Y: Not very old.

DHN: How did yee meet up ?

A.N.D.Y: I met him when I was working at the Planet Rhythm record store in stockholm,a few years back, him and adam beyer used to come by alot as they both new Cari Lekebusch whom at that time was working there too.

DHN: Do yee have any plans to work together in the future ?

A.N.D.Y: No...not yet.

DHN: How did the A Quarter of a Century actually work, you being in the states, and Jesper being in Sweden ? Was it difficult ?

A.N.D.Y: No it wasent, he came over to NYC for a few weeks.

DHN: How did the idea for this collaboration come about ?

A.N.D.Y: Just by starting making beats in the studio, we didnt have any plans where the stuff would go,we started bringing in NYC street players, poets and singers and the music started to develop from there. And by the time we where finished we kind of had an idea who to send it to.

DHN:How come you relocated to the states in the Mid-90 s ?

A.N.D.Y: I needed some change, and new insperation.

DHN: Do you think it has helped your career ?

A.N.D.Y: Absolutely.

DHN: Of late deep house from Sweden is really starting to make a name for itself, would you have prefered to stay in Sweden, if you could have forseen this present popularity ?

A.N.D.Y: NO,absolutely not! I dont realy care for that,it doesent matter , I prefer people buying my music because they like it , rather than that it s coming out of a certain country.
Im just developing my own style and trying to work with diferent artist. Just because the music is done in sweden dosent meen that its always good.

DHN: How did you find NYC just after moving there, did it take you long to get into the scene ?

A.N.D.Y: Actualy it went kind of fast, in a matter of weeks I met most of the producers that I wanted to meet. They were all realy open, and happy to tell storys of how it used to be in NYC back in the days.

DHN:You have a new album out now on Plastic City, ADNY presents Leiva, is Leiva just another moniker, or a singer ?

A.N.D.Y: Moniker.

DHN: If it s just a moniker, why the different name ?

A.N.D.Y: The same way I try to have a certain style for the labels I work for, I also like to have a name for that style, and for plastic city it became LEIVA. Leiva is my fathers midle name, he was the first one to push me into music , by putting a guitar in my hand at the age of 2, and teaching me how to play different chords, not that at that age could I even play one, but he tryed.

DHN:Being based in NYC, do you get to meet up with all the well known heads who are producing/djing in the area regularly ?? If so, who would you consider friends ??

A.N.D.Y: Yes I have met most of them and I still do, but not on a regular basis, every one is busy with there on thing.
A and not every one I hang out with is a producer.
